Combustion is the heartbeat of the engine. Without optimum combustion, power output can be compromised. This can happen in three demanding areas:
- Around the piston, deposits can disrupt the seal provided by the piston and rings. If fuel, air or combustion gases leak from the cylinder, power output can be compromised.
- In the turbocharger, deposits can reduce efficiency. This can increase turbo-lag, a delay felt between pressing the accelerator and the engine responding with power.
- Across the valvetrain, wear in timing chain components can cause it to elongate. This can disrupt valve timing – and therefore power output.
