Castrol EDGE

Unlock the very edge of performance, on demand.

Light trail of a car driving fast on a road at night with the city in the background

On-demand performance

The response of the engine when the lights turn green. Effortless overtaking. The thrill of the open road.

For many, driving is so much more than getting from A to B. Driving provides moments in the day to be enjoyed. And there are certain points in these moments when a boost in power is vital. Drivers want to experience performance on demand.

The moment of combustion

Combustion is the heartbeat of the engine. Working together, the pistons, turbo and valvetrain help optimise combustion. A high-performance oil can help deliver optimum combustion and maximise power output.

How are they important to power?

Pistons are optimised to lock the energy generated from combustion inside the cylinder. This process is vital to engine efficiency and power output.

How can power be compromised?

Deposits can disrupt the seal provided by the piston and rings. If fuel, air or combustion gases leak from the cylinder during any part of the operating cycle (blowby), power output can be compromised.

The Castrol EDGE effect

With the right balance of antioxidants, dispersants and advanced full-synthetic base oils, Castrol EDGE can withstand high temperatures and reduce the formation of piston deposits.

Castrol EDGE maintains the engine's ability to function as designed and provide maximum power on demand.

How is it important to power?

A turbocharger is made up of two halves. In one half, energy from exhaust gases is used to spin a turbine wheel. A shaft passing through the turbine spins a compressor in the other half. This compressor forces more air into the engine to boost power output from combustion.

How can power be compromised?

Compressor deposits can reduce turbo efficiency. This can increase turbo-lag, the delay felt between pressing the accelerator pedal and feeling the engine’s power output.

The Castrol EDGE effect

Castrol EDGE’s advanced full-synthetic base oils have low volatility. This helps to prevent the transfer of deposit-forming materials – managed by the oil – into the intake side of the turbo.

Castrol EDGE maintains the turbo and engine’s ability to deliver high-efficiency and provide maximum power on demand.

How is it important to power?

Valvetrains manage the flow of air in, and exhaust gases out of the combustion chamber. The exact opening and closing of valves are controlled by the timing chain. It is fundamental to power output.

How can power be compromised?

Wear in chain components can cause it to elongate. This can disrupt valve timing, the engine’s ability to ‘breathe’ efficiently, and therefore power output.

The Castrol EDGE effect

Castrol EDGE’s combination of antiwear additives and dispersants work to manage the typical wear mechanisms in timing chains. Helping to reduce chain elongation.

Castrol EDGE maintains the valvetrain and engine's ability to ‘breathe’ and provide maximum power on demand.
