CASTROL EDGE MAKES HISTORY IN LE MANS AND INDY 500

50 years after winning the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ford celebrated a historic victory at this iconic motorsport event with another win – powered by Castrol EDGE technology. In 1966, Ford won its debut at the world's most famous endurance race with a 1-2-3. In 2016, the No. 68 Ford GT won the GTE Pro class.

"We are delighted to have Castrol EDGE as a partner of the Ford Performance GT racing programme. Like Ford, Castrol has a long and successful history in the world of motorsport," said Gerard Quinn, Senior Manager, Ford Performance "Endurance racing is one of motorsport's ultimate tests. Working together in such tough conditions allows Ford and Castrol to utilise each other’s strengths in pioneering technology and to push the boundaries of automotive performance.”

The Le Mans race is 24 hours, but it's not just one day for Castrol – it's 365 days. Castrol's technologists have worked tirelessly all year. Last weekend's race was the moment when theory met practice. The result was a huge success: The twin-turbo 3.6L Ford EcoBoost V6 engine, producing over 600 horsepower, ran flawlessly throughout the 24-hour race. Running on Castrol EDGE technology, boosted with Titanium FST™, this gave the Ford GT the strength to perform in the most torturous and competitive racing environment.

"We're proud and honoured to be a part of this great achievement," said Kerim Kermen, Global Brand Director Castrol EDGE. "This is a very big moment for both the Ford family and Castrol EDGE and proof that our pioneering partnership is successfully co-engineering the next generation of engines and lubricants."

This success came just three weeks after Alexander Rossi (USA) won the100th running of the Indy 500 in his Castrol EDGE-powered Andretti Herta Autosport Honda IndyCar. Rossi, was the first rookie to win the Indy 500 since 2001!

Winning with Castrol EDGE technology at Le Mans and the Indy 500, arguably the two most prestigious motorsport events in the world, makes 2016 another milestone in our history.
