Our portfolio for hybrids

Our engine oils for hybrids cater to customers who prioritise performance and protection. The right lubricant can make all the difference in dealing with the impacts of rapid acceleration to high engine speeds, stop-start driving conditions, cooler engine temperatures, oil contamination and system efficiency requirements.

Understanding our engine oils for hybrids

We have two levels of assurance on our products:

  • ‘Suitable for hybrids’
  • ‘Delivers against Castrol’s HYSPEC standard’

If you see hybrid in the fuel type section on a product…

It means the oil performs in hybrids and can be used in a hybrid vehicle where the manufacturer specifies the viscosity and specification shown on pack.

If you see the HYSPEC logo on a product…

It means our oils demonstrate at least 25%1 benefit across the three critical hybrid areas of contaminants, engine intermittency and system efficiency.

Please note that any information provided by this website on engine lubricant recommendations for your vehicle is not intended to be a substitute for advice by your vehicle manufacturer or workshop mechanic.  Please consult your vehicle owner’s manual or workshop mechanic for advice on the appropriate engine lubricant for your vehicle.

More about hybrid technologies and HYSPEC

1Compared to performance minimum requirements set in both industry specification and Castrol bespoke testing across tests applicable to hybrid vehicle types, covering contaminants, engine intermittency and system efficiency.
2Greater power delivery for normalised fuel consumption relative to 5W-40 baseline, demonstrated by engine testing for more than 80% of the Castrol EDGE portfolio by volume in 2021
3Tested versus the Sequence IVA API SN wear limit
4Tested versus the CEC OM646LA ACEA wear limits.
